An estimated 2.3m items are expected to be added to the site, boosting total listings by 14% in one day.

The flurry of activity comes ahead of 'Blue Monday,' when temperatures and moods are low, Christmas memories are fading, New Year resolutions have fallen by the wayside and pay day is still two weeks away for many.

Bargain hunters can expect to find plenty of jewellery, watches, clothing and books going cheap.

Igloo Ice House - Funny Ebay Listing

Hearing an estate agent say that the property market is on a slippery slide downwards would not be out of the normal in the UK at the moment. However a house for sale in Hailsham, East Sussex may bring that figure of speech a little closer to reality.

The Igloo Ice House is being sold in aid of a homeless charity; the seller states that the house was built on 1oth January 2010 by "intrepid builders Mrs Morgan, Ellis & Titmus." The Igloo Ice House stands approximately 5'10" in height with one entrance. (Some health and safety executive would probably chime in that this is a fire risk and does not conform to building standards!).

The seller's blurb from local estate agents Simon Marden claims it will go before the market "hots up".

A spokesman joked: "We are still waiting to hear back from local man Jack Frost."
